You may have noticed
that a new shop has opened up at 18 Colborne Street North in Simcoe… its name
is Sun-e-girl… the owner, Judy Janzen, called last week and asked if I would
like it visit.
I stopped in and was very impressed with her store. You see Judy’s business is upholstery, drapery and blinds. Judy is a whiz at upholstery. She showed me some of her work… chairs from the 1950s that she re-upholstered… they look as elegant as the day they were made. As I sat on a horsehair sofa, which Judy had redone, we began to talk about her background…
She thinks back to the days when her own mother would sew her dresses by hand… it left an impression with Judy… the quality, beauty and craftsmanship her mother put into what she made… it stuck with Judy.
Judy herself began sewing and it wasn’t long before upholstery caught her eye… her talent for bringing furniture back to life is unquestionable. With her selection of drapery and blinds, she has something that will fit with any home décor.
Judy herself is new to the area. An old friend of hers, who has lived here all of her life, recommended Norfolk to Judy and suggested that Judy come and check out the area. She did and decided this was where she wanted to be… she walked around Simcoe and knew this would be her new home. It wasn’t long before Judy was searching out a storefront to start her business… after years of sewing and reupholstering furniture it was time for Judy to open her own shop.
When she walked through the location on Colborne Street, she knew she had found her storefront.
I asked Judy to describe her business relating to the drapery, upholstery and fabric blinds. She said her business is, ‘…small with big service, affordable luxury with that specialist touch…’ Judy makes you feel comfortable in her store… she is easy to talk to and understands the importance of listening to her customers… come on in and say hello to Judy… let her help bring that family favourite chair back to life!
A few of the top labels in fabric that Judy uses are Kravet, Robert Allen, Maxwell, Joanne and Avant Garde. As for blinds she uses Sun Glow Window Covering, which is a Canadian product. Hours are Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30am -5:00pm; Thursday 9:30am – 7:00pm; Friday 9:30am – 6:00pm; Saturday 9:30am - 2:00pm or call, 905-980-0197.
